Legal expert furious no campaign used his comments on the constitutionality of the Voice

Greg Cravens claims the No campaign misled voters by using his comments without context

The most prominent concerns have come from constitutional lawyer Prof Greg Craven

He claimed the voices power to advise executive government on Indigenous affairs was an "advisory body with teeth".

A senior barrister advising the Albanese government on the Indigenous voice to parliament referendum has blasted the No campaign for using his comments in a misleading way.

Constitutional lawyer Greg Craven has accused the No campaign of misleading voters after it quoted him criticising the proposed Voice model.

In a legal opinion piece published on the Australian website earlier this year, Craven said the Voice would give the executive government "enormous power".

"The Voice is not just an advisory body," he wrote. "It is an advisory body with teeth."

The No campaign has used Craven's comments in its campaign material, claiming that the Voice would give the executive government too much power.

But Craven says his comments have been taken out of context.

"The No campaign is deliberately misleading voters by using my comments out of context," he said.

"I have never said that the Voice is unconstitutional. I have said that it has the potential to give the executive government too much power.

"But this is a matter that can be addressed through the referendum process.

"The No campaign is simply trying to scare voters into voting against the Voice.

"They are not interested in having a genuine debate about the merits of the proposal."

The referendum on the Indigenous voice to parliament will be held on May 27.
